Culture Shocks in Argentina (Traffic)

They never use the direction indicator.

・Venture across Argentina
The drivers never stop for pedestrians.
There are far less traffic lights than in Japan.
You have to across the street with your bravery.

・The passing lane is oncoming lane
Many roads are one lane, sometime it's including the highway.
When you are passing others, if the oncoming car is coming...

・End of Town
I still haven't understood it very much.
If I understand it, it means the urban area is finished.
For me, it is a strange sign. 

A Special Day

Yesterday was a special day, different from usual.
We went to San Jose elementary school (in Salta) in the morning.
They provided some typical Argentine food to us.
After that, they performed traditional dance and song for us.
It was quite impressive for me.

We gave some presentations to them in return, and introduced our own cultures.
Rich(U.S.A) and Shweta(India) were my team members.
Children listened to our stories with their shining eyes.
We also introduced "origami" at the advice of Rich & Shweta!
I made "heart" with the students by origami.

The school was a little bit old. And it's never large to say considering that Argentina is a spacious country. However there are a lot of students(almost one thousand), and they were so full of energy. They were very interested in Japan and Japanese culture. One of the students gave me her drawing, it made me so happy!!

In the evening, a event was held by the organization "Anpuy" which we are working in.
Children who applied and posted their own singing video on Facebook, sang on the stage.
That was a great show! They ware really talented beyond my expectation.
I can't imagine who can be a professional singer, because every kid on the stage sang so well.

  It was a day I could find the kids very appealing in Argentina.

昨日はいつもと違った特別な1日でした。

午前中は異文化交流のため、San Joseという小学校を訪ねました。
彼らは朝から私たちのために、たくさんの地元料理を用意してくれ、ダンスや歌まで披露してくれました。とてもアルゼンチンらしい文化を感じられ、楽しむことができました。

彼らへのお返しに、私たちも自国の文化を各自で紹介しました。
私のチームはRich（アメリカ）とShweta(インド）の3人。
みんな目を輝かせてプレゼンを聞いてくれました。恥ずかしがることなく、たくさんの質問をし
てくれました。私たちのチームは自国の文化を紹介した後、RichとShwetaの勧めで「折り紙」を紹介し、子どもたちと一緒に折ることにしました。全員でハートを折りました。

決してきれいとも言えず、広大なアルゼンチンの敷地からしたら広いとも言えない学校でしたが
恐らく1000人ほどの生徒がおり、本当にみな元気いっぱいでたくさんの元気をもらいました！

夕方は、私たちが支援している団体が主催しているイベントがありました。
子どもたちが歌を歌っている姿をビデオにとり、facebookで応募し、選ばれた子どもたちが昨日のステージで歌を披露していました。私たちの想像をはるかに超える歌唱力を持った子どもたちばかりで、一体アルゼンチンのプロの歌手というのはどれだけ上手い人たちなんだろうと、考えてしまうほど大人負けする歌声でした。

アルゼンチンの子どもたちの魅力をいっぱいに感じられた1日でした。

人生最初で最後のパーマをスペインで体験。

目の上にキュウリを載せられるという、なんとも古めかしいエステをバリ島で体験。

2014年5月昨日
「マッサージ：1時間1500円（メニューはこれ１つだけ）」をアルゼンチンのホテル内で体験。

肩が凝っていたのでマッサージに挑戦しようと思い立ち、ホテルの受付で予約した。
時間になり、部屋に入ったらおばちゃんに全部服を脱いで的なジェスチャーをされ、言われるがままに・・・たぶんアロママッサージってことだよね・・・？
アロママッサージなら、きっと「どの香りにされますか？」と聞かれるに違いないと思っていたのに、何も聞かれることなくタプタプタプと大量に手に取ったオイルが私の体にすり込まれていった。
何の匂いもしない・・・きっとオリーブオイルだったのだろう。。。

マッサージなのに、暖房もないのでとにかく寒くて全身が冷え切ってしまった。
その上から寒風摩擦のようなオイルマッサージを受けて、皮膚だけが熱くなり、かゆくなった。肩、背中、腕、手のひら、太もも、足、足の裏すべてオイルを塗りたくって、素手でマッサージしてくれた。仰向けになり、腕と足をさらにマッサージしてくれたところまで良かったが、そのオイルの手のまま、手は私の顔へ・・・。化粧したままなのに。。。と思いながら、オイルで顔をぐりぐりされ、その手のまま頭もぐりぐりされ・・・とても気持ちよい60分でした（＾＾；）
（髪と顔がべたべたになり、その日はもう外へでないと決めることに。。。）

「あなた、本当に肩がすごく硬いわよ。いつまでこのホテルにいるの？また私を指名して呼びなさいね！！」

笑顔がとってもすてきなおばちゃんでした。憎めないね・・・・

Culture Shocks in Argentina (Part1)

・Seafood is not to be found anywhere
Most restaurants don't have any seafood. 
I looked for fresh seafood in the supermarket today, but there was no more than frozen seafood, and very few.


・There are a lot of stray dogs
Dogs are everywhere. Once I met them, they follow me.
I liked dogs in Japan, but now I'm afraid of rabies.
They are my concern now.
Different from Japan, all dogs don't have collars.


・The weather forecast is almost wrong
The weather forecast likes saying "rain".
But in the morning it's always cloudy and in the afternoon is always sunny.

メンバーとの初対面（日本語編）

一昨日(5/3)の夜、チームメンバーの皆と初対面しました。
約1ヶ月の間Ankara Suitesというホテルに滞在しますが、キッチンもコンロもレンジもついていて、ベッドも大きいし、テレビもあるし、社会貢献のブログラムであるのにもかかわらず、とても快適な部屋を用意してもらっていて満足しています。

昨日は朝からオリエンテーションや近隣ツアーがありました。
日曜だったのでお店はほとんど空いていなかったけれど、近くのスーバーや薬局やパン屋などの位置を確認しました。
歩いているうちに変な人形を発見・・・。これはアルゼンチン名物のエンパナーダという食べ物です。
また日本でも一時期流行ったマテ茶が有名で、チャレンジしました。少し苦さはあるけどおいしかった！
砂糖を入れて飲むこともあるそうです。入れ物が独特でかわいい♪

気候は1152mの標高にもかかわらず、昼間は23℃ほどありました。（昨日の気温）
夜はトレンチなどを羽織らないと寒いくらい気温が下がります。

今日から月曜日。これからやっとスタートを切る気分です。
頑張らなくては！！

ホテルからの街並み

Salta es muy linda!!!

I arrived at Salta on May 1st.
It has a population of 619,000 inhabitants.
It's far from the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires.

I stayed a small hotel for two days. There was a pretty "patio".
It was a quiet and relaxed place.

I walked around the Salta city yesterday.
There are some churches and historical buildings.

From 3 p.m to 8 p.m, all shops and restaurants close, because of "siesta".
So I went back to the hotel and took a nap. I still had jet lag.

I didn't see the lighting-up Catedral, so I wanna go there again with my colleagues at night!!
